Kung Fu Panda 2 is in theaters today, Thursday, May 26th! You may remember my post about meeting Jack Black and Antonio Banderas, if not click here if you would like to read it! A few weeks ago Dreamworks invited my family to visit the studios, watch Kung Fu Panda 2, see the new Mattel toys made specially for the movie, and take a tour of the studios (I'll post more about the studios at a later date). It was a magical morning.
My kids had a blast, I got to mingle with my blogueras friends, the toys were fun, the food, delicious, the movie, pure awesome-awesomeness!
I'm not going to give you the synopsis, because you can read it here.
Kung Fu Panda 2 is rated PG. It is a very touching story with well developed characters, incredible action scenes, just the right amount of humor, friendship, tears, honor. It has it all. My kids loved it and so did I. I highly recommend taking your kids and having a great day at the theater.
Just one last thing, a lot of times we get so immersed in an animated film we forget who is giving their voices to the characters. There are many big names giving their talents to this movie including:
Jack Black (Po), Angelina Jolie (Tigress), Jackie Chan (Monkey), Seth Rogan (Mantis), Lucy Liu (Viper), David Cross (Crane), Dustin Hoffman (Master Shifu), James Hong (Mr. Ping, Po's father), Gary Oldman (Lord Shen, white peacock), Michelle Yeoh (Soothsayyer), Danny McBride (Wolf boss), Dennis Haysbert (Master Storming Ox), Jean-Claude Van Damme (Master Croc) and Victor Garber (Master Thundering Rhino).
Now I'll tell you some other details about the movie, so please, if you don't want to hear these STOP HERE! But check out my Dreamworks Studio Tour post in the future, thanks.
Spoiler Alert!!! Well, now, you want to know what happens, eh? I'll tell you. If you saw the original Kung Fu Panda, you got to meet the furious five (tigress, monkey, mantis, crane and viper), Master Shifu, and of course you met Po as he became the Dragon Warrior.
In Kung Fu Panda 2 you will meet these same characters, plus new ones, like the evil Lord Shen, a white peacock. Po works to master inner peace (in his own way), with the help of his friends who both protect him and aid him, and we learn the story of Po's origins. You'll learn the real story of who Po's parents were, why they sent him away, how he “showed up” in a radish box in front of Po's adopted father's restaurant (you will see Po as a baby, soooo cute!), and the important role the white peacock has in Po's life.
Lord Shen the peacock has created a weapon which threatens to destroy Kung Fu and all China and Po is given the task to save them all. His friends accept the challenge with him, until the point where Po must face Lord Shen, iron weapon and all, alone.
Kung Fu Panda 2 has spectacular action sequences, battles and a beautiful (literally) ending. Watch for a extraordinary scene where Po takes the flaming bullets like they were balls and throws them back at the enemy as if in a synchronized dance, just beautiful.
Disclosure: My kids and I were invited to Dreamworks Studios to watch an advance screening of Kung Fu Panda 2, they treated us to lunch and gave my kids goodie bags. All opinions, reviews, and comments are solely my own.
