This post was written while participating in my partnership with the National Dairy Council, but, as always, all opinions are my own.
Today, I want to share a simple recipe that blends some of nature’s best foods all into one yummy treat.
Milk pops, or paletas de leche, as we call them in Spanish, are a favorite treat in our house. They are easy to make and can be packed with lots of good stuff, like yummy fruit, calcium rich yogurt, delicious milk and even veggies! My kids love them and it’s a great way to help them get their vitamins, minerals and calcium.
If you’ve read this blog for awhile, you know the central role dairy products play in my family’s diet. Whether it’s a refreshing glass of milk, creamy yogurt, or flavorful cheese, dairy foods taste great and help make our lives better and they play a huge role in our family’s culinary history.
I’ve mentioned before how drinking the same amount of milk, but in smaller portions, helped a family member manage his lactose intolerance. These delicious milk pops are great for him. Also, the recipe works great with low-fat lactose free milk, same flavor, same nutrition!
I like using the small plastic cups because they are ready in less time and they are the perfect size for younger kids
This recipe is easy to make, full of flavor, and packed with antioxidants, vitamins and calcium. I used low-fat milk. The ripe banana and frozen berries bring most of the sugar to the recipe, so it calls for just one more tablespoon of sugar for all 7 milk pops!! Here’s the recipe.
Banana Berry Milk Pops
Yields 7 milk pops
Preparation time: 10 minutes
From Start to Finish: 2 hours
Ingredients:
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 cup of frozen mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries and blackberries)
- 1 T of sugar
- 1 cup of low fat milk or 1 cup low-fat lactose free milk
You will also need
- 7 (125 ml or 4.22 oz) plastic cups
- 7 popsicle sticks
Peel the banana and drop in a blender, add the berries, sugar and milk. Blend well. Pour the mixture into the 7 plastic containers and put them into the freezer.
After 45 minutes, check the pops, if they are firm, add a popsicle stick to each one and leave them in the freezer until solid.
Enjoy!
