I’ve always wanted a red desk. It’s hard to say why, but I’ve admired them since I was a little girl. I've been looking for one for quite some time, but most desks, red or not, are just too big for the space I have and frankly, they can get a bit expensive.
So I searched and searched and found this little desk on craigslist, and even though it wasn’t the right color, it was the perfect size for me.
The funny things is, a few years ago, I would have passed up this perfect sized desk and kept looking because the color was wrong.
But if there’s one thing I’ve learned while doing these projects with Lowes (this month’s challenge was to do a furniture makeover and refinishing), it’s how just a smidgen of paint and a little bit of time can make a world of difference.
In just two and a half hours, I sanded all the surfaces…
…painted two coats of luscious red, this one is called Grenadine…
…and added a couple of special details to make it my own (Querer es Poder means something in the line of “If there's a will, there's a way,” or “If you can dream it, you can achieve it”). I like having it written right in front of me when I'm working. It helps keep me going.
What do you think? Simple, but I love it!
Here is a list of materials I used:
- Valspar ultra paint+primer semigloss interior in Eddie Bauer Grenadine (EB38-3) color
- Valspar paint satin in Belle Grove Antique White (530812)
- Sandpaper (medium grit)
- Paint brush (2 in)
- Paint brush (very small for white details)
- Ground cloth
