I told you recently that I was heading to the Monterey Bay Aquarium to get a sneak peak of the new, highly anticipated, Disney/Pixar film, Finding Dory, which opens in theaters June 17th. And if you follow my social media channels, then you know I had many close encounters there with the various flora and fauna of our great oceans, like fish, otter, kelp, shark and even a gigantic octopus.
The beauty of our world can transform us. I know it does me, and walking through the aquarium and seeing all those marine animals, I just felt happy being near them. I wish my kids could have been there that day. I know they would feel the same. Some day soon I'll get back there with them.

The influence of the aquarium on Pixar's animators was clear that day and that's why they chose to have the event at this spectacular aquarium. Seeing nature through the eyes of Pixar animators is always a treat. Sometimes, though, we forget how much goes into an animated feature. We go to the theater, enjoy the storytelling, laugh at the jokes, and admire the artistry. But before all that, a lot of research, hard work, and love goes into it. Let me show you just some of the real life inspirations behind the characters in Finding Dory, the real plants and animals animators researched for several years and untold hours.
